What is Tableya ? 
Known as '' Cacao ''  in different countries but here in 
Philippines, specially in Argao, Cebu, they call it Tableya.
It is made out from seed, extracted and refined thoroughly.
It is a bittersweet chocolate flavor.

Most Filipinos used it in making Champorado, a porridge in a chocolate flavor. 
Old ones made it as a hot choco '' sikwate '' in bisaya served during breakfast.

In the southern part of Cebu, I discovered a 95 years old Tableya Maker named 
Miguela '' Guilang '' Lanutan, who started the business 1948, when she was just 17 years old .
She was working in a Tableya maker in T.Padilla, Cebu City back then during her teenage years
and realized that back in her hometown, Argao they have Cacao fruits. So, she started making her own Tableya with the help of her husband and introduced it to the neighborhood.
During those times she supplied her  tableya's to Argao Beach Club.



One day, a Swiss National asked where did they get the tableya that they served in the resort.He was too eager to know how and who made it. He even visited the 
place where Lola Guilang made her tableya, to a surprise the Swiss is working in a chocolate Industry.
He studied the way how Lola Guilang made her Tableya and help her to make the best Tableya 
in town.

We are lucky to get a chance to visit the factory where it is originated.
Lola Guilang is now 95 years old but still she is the final taster in every tableya that they make from the factory.Over the years they are still the number one Tableya producer in Cebu, they supplied all Gaisano Branches.

A legacy and a pride of Argao made with passion and dedication that we enjoyed until today.
The best of Guilang's Tableya is how they helped the fellow Argaonons who doesn't have work.
They trained and transformed them to make the best product that they can produced.



Another pride of Guilang's Tableya is the way how they make their tableya through " finger drop ".
The only tableya maker in the Philippines who uses these kind of practice.

Not all that, they are a proud company today that encourages all companies to used paper materials for packaging goods.
